Skin aging

From the age of 25, the firmness and resilience of the skin diminishes. Due to this reduction in firmness and resilience, the first visible changes start to become visible from the age of 35. The production of collagen and elastin is reduced, making the skin softer. In addition, the production of melanin becomes more irregular, causing pigment spots and color differences in the skin. The blood vessels in the skin become weaker, causing them to widen and become more visible. This also causes red discoloration in the skin. The skin may also feel drier due to the reduction of sebum production. The skin may look a bit dry / dull.

The discolorations in the skin in combination with the fine lines make the skin look aged.

It is important to prevent many of the above complaints. It is therefore important to properly protect and treat the skin from the age of 25.

What are the causes of skin aging?

The following factors can accelerate skin aging:

  • Genetic: Heredity partly determines the speed of skin aging. These are processes that occur with every person and cannot be stopped. The speed, severity and extent to which skin aging is present is partly hereditary.
  • Skin type: People who naturally have oily skin are less likely to develop fine lines, etc. The effects of dry skin will also be less noticeable with these skin types.
  • Sun damage (also tanning bed): Sun rays affect the cells in our skin. Excessive exposure to the sun without proper protection causes a lot of damage to take place in the cells. These cells lose their functions faster, causing skin aging to start more quickly.
  • Smoking
  • Being overweight
  • Unhealthy lifestyle
